Although this book was endorsed by Gurdjieff, it seems odd that the system insists on understanding being difficult to attain and then Ouspensky goes and puts large swathes of it in an easily digestible, page novel. However, I get the feeling that he came to be under the spell of Gurdjieff and guddjieff lacked much ability to step outside of the work frammfnti question the bigger picture and the personal motivations of the master, for I sense that there are omissions.

The style makes you feel as though you, too, are traveling by train through the Caucasus alongside its author. You get the feeling that there was something magical about being part of G’s community, but that something is very hard to translate into words, even for someone as eloquent as Ouspensky.
